I thought it was a praying mantis Orchid, a flower, an orchid flower that looks like a praying mantis. But I was totally wrong! It is a praying mantis (Hymenopus coronatus) that mimics an orchid flower for a camouflage. It has got its name because it resembles the flower of an orchid with its four walking legs resembling flower petals. Most orchid mantises are white, but there is also a pink to purplish colour morph. What an extraordinary nature! I put this image in extraordinary flowers post, because on the contrary, there are also some genus of orchids look like animals. So let’s get confused and let nature amazes us! |
Bird Orchid (Pterostylis barbata) |
White Egret Orchid (Habenaria Radiata) |
Monkey face orchid (Dracula Simia) |
Flying Duck Orchid (Caleana major) |
