A good samaritan“A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side (ignorant coward). So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side (either ignorant or imbecile). But a *Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity (compassion, humanist) on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ (* The Samaritans were a racially mixed society with Jewish and pagan ancestry. Although they worshiped Yahweh as did the Jews, their religion was not mainstream Judaism) Jesus asked, “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” |
A good samaritan is a humanist person, with good heart and compassion.
IF a religion doesn’t make one a good person (A humanist compassionate person, we don’t have to be a saint) then that one doesn’t understand well what a religion taught. The possibilities are, either: 1. an ignorant (knows but doesn’t care) 2. a coward (belong to a religion because of fear) 2. kind of imbecile (knows but doesn’t understand) 3. suffer from mental problem (rationally and emotionally unstable) 4. belong to a wrong religion (the teaching doesn’t suit personally) Sometimes, yes, I can be an ignorant An example: Bible written, Jesus taught to forgive, it means do not make any revenge. |
In “A good Samaritan” parable, Jesus, as a Humanist Philosopher had tried to teach and tell us that being a humanist person is much better and please the Lord, than being a hypocrite religious zealot, one who knows all about the law (or sharia in Islam) of a religion only for lips service (theoritically), yet practically null.
One who does not know any about law (sharia) of certain religion or belief, but does practice and live as a humanist among fellows human been and other living creatures, that one, indeed has good compassion heart. By doing good thing, caring, forgiving, helping, to other fellows human been and other living creatures, that one does gratefully praise the Lord, indirectly. Of course, it is the best, if one knows the law or religion and practice it vertically (gratefully praises the Lord) and horizontally (compassionately cares other fellow human been and living creatures). |
